A patient's story

“There to hold my hand every step of the way.”

While training for a marathon in his eighties, Alex — a lifelong runner from Derbyshire — was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, despite having no symptoms at all. Within a day he was discussing his options with Dr Das at the University Hospitals of Derby.

With his sons living on different continents, Alex describes how Dr Das and the team made sure he was never alone. He chose a hormone and radiotherapy pathway, and kept running throughout treatment. Five years on he is in remission, has completed a half-marathon, and now lives with family in Pennsylvania.
