A patient's story
“There to hold my hand every step of the way.”
While training for a marathon in his eighties, Alex — a lifelong runner from Derbyshire — was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, despite having no symptoms at all. Within a day he was discussing his options with Dr Das at the University Hospitals of Derby.
With his sons living on different continents, Alex describes how Dr Das and the team made sure he was never alone. He chose a hormone and radiotherapy pathway, and kept running throughout treatment. Five years on he is in remission, has completed a half-marathon, and now lives with family in Pennsylvania.
★★★★★He talked me through my treatment and what to expect, and I felt reassured by everything he told me. Nothing was too much trouble during a difficult time.
★★★★★Very frank and straightforward. He explains the diagnosis and the treatment, with its risks, clearly — and always makes sure you understand.
★★★★★From our very first consultation I felt confident I was talking to a world-class expert, completely abreast of the latest techniques. He listened, and encouraged me not to rush.
★★★★★Personable, approachable and knowledgeable — we were invited to ask any questions and never felt rushed. In finding Dr Das, we feel most fortunate.
★★★★★His gentle, reassuring manner together with his extensive knowledge and skill assures me I'm getting the best treatment available.
★★★★★He explained everything clearly so I could understand my condition, and helps me stay as positive as I can with an incurable diagnosis.
