National expertise

Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy.

SABR delivers a high, precisely targeted dose in just a few sessions. Dr Das has a specialist interest in this technique.

Overview

Precision radiotherapy, fewer sessions.

SABR uses detailed imaging and highly accurate delivery to concentrate an ablative radiation dose on the target while protecting surrounding healthy tissue.

Image guidance helps the treatment team check the position of the target. The imaging and delivery technique depend on the individual treatment plan. Dr Das also chairs the SBRT multidisciplinary team.

What to expect

Three stages, clearly explained.

The process is structured so that you understand why the treatment is recommended, how it will be planned and what happens afterwards.

01

Assessment

A detailed consultation, review of imaging and discussion of whether SABR is appropriate.

02

Planning scan

Specialist imaging maps the target and nearby organs to millimetre precision.

03

Treatment & follow-up

A small number of focused sessions, followed by planned review and ongoing support.

Image guidance

Planning around your anatomy.

  • Treatment in a few sessions
  • A carefully planned dose for the treatment target
  • Planning to limit exposure to nearby healthy tissue
  • Less disruption to daily life

What should I ask about SABR?

Ask what the treatment aims to achieve, why it is being considered in your case, and what alternatives exist. The team should explain the planned number of visits and the possible short- and longer-term side effects for the area being treated.

A consultation is the place to discuss suitability. Previous treatment, scan findings and the surrounding organs all matter; the information on this page cannot establish whether SABR is right for you.
